Inexpensive Storage Also Grants FREE Advertising Space
Driving through a smaller-ish sized town in the south, I saw a Used Tire business with a WHOLE lot of inventory.
I mean, tires everywhere. That place got business.
It was located in an amazing location – right on the corner two busy neighborhood streets on the edge of an manufacturing neighborhood.
The spray-painted writing on the roll-up door of their shipping container said “Used Tires $20 Each”.
I guess that’s all the advertisement they needed.
As I sat at the red light and watched, a customer’s car was stripped of its two back tires, and like that, the roll up door was opened and two new tires rolled out.
At $20 a tire, you have to be fast.
I’ve always heard realtors talk about “Location, location, location.”
True.
But if you have a good product, a good service, and you want to grow or expand without raising the roof on your prices, you also have to be efficient.
By taking an economical used shipping container, and adding roll-up doors for extra access, this shop had their inventory sorted by size and memorized.
Racing teams would have been impressed.
The Benefits Of Used Shipping Containers for Industry Storage
No matter your industry, almost every business owner needs additional storage. Especially secure storage.
Theft Prevention
This past week, a good friend of mine who owns a plumbing company had his office/yard broken into. The wooden fence was broken through and BARRELS full of copper were stolen.
That business owner is now having to endure the headache of filing an insurance claim, all while repairing the fence.
A 10′ or 20′ steel shipping container would have prevented that theft.
Shipping containers are made to be watertight to cross the high-seas, and extremely durable. Outside of a torch cutter, a thief is not getting in that box.
What about the heavy-duty cargo doors? They’re steel as well. When combined with a strong lock box, you have terrific theft deterrent that will make your insurance company representative (and you) quite happy.
Watertight
Shipping containers are made to keep goods and products safe from one end of the ocean to the other.
Most companies will advertise “watertight” (as all containers in at least decent shape fit this description), but we take our “watertight” a bit more seriously.
We offer:
- 2-year watertight guarantee on our 2-star rated used containers
- 3-year watertight guarantee on our 3-star rated used containers
- 5-year watertight guarantee on our 4-star rated used containers
- 8-year watertight guarantee on our 5-star rated new/one-trip containers
Easy To Modify
While the cargo doors are easy access in themselves, if you need additional access points, containers are easily modified.
Containers can be modified to include:
- roll-up doors
- steel “man” doors
- sliding glass doors
- windows (or steel-barred windows for security)
- holes cut for A/C units for temperature and humidity control
- holes cut for heater units
- insulation added
- shelving added for additional storage
- and more.
With a few modifications, you can even create a portable office from shipping container for your construction site.
Portable Storage
No matter if you are storing plumbing parts, overstock elementary school supplies during a remodel, tires, or restaurant goods – a major benefit of a storage container is the ability to move it where you need it to go.
Think about it.
Your elementary school or business office is under remodel. You move all the furniture, equipment, and supplies into the container near the building exit.
Now, it’s time to move out all the furniture out of the other wing – all the way on the other side of the building.
You could trek all your heavy furniture and giant printers manually – pushing and carrying each piece the 3/4 mile trip to the container and back.
OR…you could just move the container to the door right outside the building and stay mostly in your nice, climate-controlled office (and not out in the mercy of the parking lot elements).
Trendy Advertising
If you’re using our rent-to-own option, this won’t apply to you, BUT if you choose to purchase your container outright – you can paint it to your heart’s content!
You could paint it to match your warehouse decor. (I’m assuming that might be grey.) It will just blend in to the surroundings.
Or you could have a little fun with it.
Just like the tire shop from the small southern town, you could have an artist out to paint a mural on your container, adding a fun slogan, your logo, or interesting graphics.
I’ve seen this done with patio-style taco shops near Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.
The shipping container was painted to look festive and decorated with lights. No longer was it “extra dry storage”, now it was an attraction.
Visitors could get their photo with the unique piece of functional artwork, snapping or tweeting their photos to the social media streams with hashtags like #besttacosever and the restaurant location. Talk about free advertising!
Another community micro-brew pub in California was looking to modify a shipping container to create an open bar – with roll-up service windows. They planned to keep the industrial feel of the container, and add rustic wood elements to bring it into their community “vibe”.
How will you use your shipping container?
No matter what industry you’re in – from artist to construction, containers are a great way to save money and increase efficiency by reducing over-crowded storage, increasing security, increasing product access, increasing brand awareness, and more.
